Synopsis
Unearthed explores the unpredictability of living through perimenopause, where emotions can shift without warning and each day can bring a completely different version of yourself.
The two faces represent the extremes that can emerge from the hormonal rollercoaster. One captures the intensity of rage and overwhelm, while the other embodies the flat, deadpan feeling of having simply “run out of shits to give.” Neither face is more truthful than the other. Both are part of the experience.
The artwork can be displayed with either face upright, reflecting the uncertainty of not knowing which mood will surface next. Layers of colour, gestural marks and contrasting imagery create a sense of movement and instability, mirroring the emotional unpredictability of this stage of life.
Unearthed is both confronting and playful. It acknowledges the frustration, absurdity and loss of control that can come with perimenopause, while reclaiming the experience as something worthy of being seen, expressed and talked about.
