Synopsis
This work is a visual map of the many elements that make up me, all competing for space inside an unpredictable and constantly busy brain (hence the naming system). Rather than presenting a single narrative, the painting brings together fragments of my identity, interests, work, passions and the things currently occupying my thoughts.
The Statue of Liberty represents the complicated emotions surrounding my decision to renounce my American citizenship. Hogwarts and the Harry Potter imagery reference my love of the books, the magical world I've created in my Harry Potter room, and the comfort and joy it brings me. Zinnia stencils appear throughout the work as a nod to my obsession with gardening, while the spray can represents my career as an artist.
The one way street sign reflects the uncertainty and conflicting directions I feel about my life at the moment. Rainbows weave through the composition as a symbol of my optimism, a reminder that underneath the confusion, noise and uncertainty, there is still a belief that things will work out.
Together, these fragments form a portrait of a AuDHD brain that is messy, unpredictable, curious and full of competing thoughts, but also full of colour, creativity, possibility and hope.
