Synopsis
This artwork was painted from a photo my Mum (Donna Sculley) took while living and working in a remote community a few years ago. Cyril and his Grandpa were regulars at the convenience store Mum worked at.
This work is a step back from the bright and bold colours I normally paint with. I feel ashamed, as an Australian, at the lack of knowledge and understand I have of Indigenous culture. I don't feel that I am in a position, or have enough knowledge to be a voice - to colour the energy or convey the emotion needed for their story. The advice I have been given is to listen. So this is me listening. Making a space for someone else to tell their story. This is Cyril & Grandpa.
